Maggie Negrete & Alison Zapata: Cafe Con Leche Resident Artists
Rock Bottom Beer 21+ with ID while supplies last.
Music by Christian Hoffman
Maggie Negrete is a feminist artist that adapts her medium in response to the dialogue she wishes to create with her audience. Negrete's artwork takes the form of installations, zines, illustrations and prints. Her visual language is highly influenced by her heritage of typographers, printers and illustrators. For her Cafe Con Leche residency, Maggie Negrete has created a series of portraits compiled with stories in zine called Puntos de Referencia. These ""points of reference"" were her touchstones in the development of her Mexican identity, especially in a region without a prominent Latinx community.

Alison Zapata asked 12 people of Latino heritage living in Pittsburgh to contribute personal symbols of identity relating to their home countries. The paintings are designed to combine the personal symbols in the style of the Pennsylvania folk art tradition of Hex paintings typically found in rural PA barns. Alison's series is subversive, fooling the eye with its familiar fashion of PA hex signs; however upon further inspection, they present the personal longing for their country while building a life in Pennsylvania. Alison hopes to contribute to the conversation about the evolving definition of what it means to be a Pennsylvanian.

The Café Con Leche Latino Artist Residency program at MWFA is possible with support from The Heinz Endowments Small Arts Initiative, Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation, and Port Authority of Allegheny County. www.mostwantedfineart.com www.cafeconlechepgh.com

Justin Scott: Nothing Was Ever the Same
"Nothing was ever the same" sees to take you through a series of emotions and moments in time. The things we all have been through, the good times, the tough times, the mundane moments that are cherished in hindsight, things that are as alarming in society today as they were in the past. Justin Scott is a Pittsburgh resident whose inspiration comes from everything and nothing; social inequalities to the way the wind tastes at the moment. His artworks range from music, writing, acting, photography, painting, sculpture, & mixed media. Continued from June.

Tim "Paizley" Powell explores ideas of humanity, hatred, and pop culture through an exhibition of illustrations, paintings, and collage in, "No Fate". This series of work is in response to commonly experienced disregard of humanity and its representation in pop culture and media. The title plays with the idea of fate as said in the classic film, Terminator, "There's no fate but what we make for ourselves." In regard to racism, interpersonal relationships, self-subjugation, and the need for self-identity, the work touches on many messages through different media and styles. "No Fate" blends colorful presentation with dark messages and themes. https://facebook.com/boomconcepts www.boomconcepts.com
